As a young party-goer who did not experience the rave era of thee 90’s, the philosophy and the political concepts adjoining this movement includes some grey areas and some contradictions. On the other hand, when we listen to what is remaining from these parties, we notice undisputably the open-mindedness through the many musical styles played which is rare nowadays. Those who know Luke Slater now are most of the time referring to the techno stallion incarnated by Planetary Assault System, L.B. Dub Corp and his own name. However it would be very reductive to remember only those three names. For at least than 25 years now, the English artists produced more than a dozen of LP’s, loads of Eps with hits and secret weapons. Some of us swoon in front of 7th place elegance, whereas the others will prefer the Detroit moods from Translucent. The pleasant thing with Mr Slater is that whatever the alias, he knows how to look like a new man, adopting a new point of view and using concepts without forgetting music. Few weeks ago, we published an interview from the man focusing on it project L.B. Dub Corp.  After this article, a good samaritan who organized the legendary rave from Villebon-Sur-Yvette had the kindness to give us the records from Laurent Garnier and Luke Slater. If this recording could surprise people into what Mr Slater is playing nowadays we think, the Phonocast is a beautiful testimony of an old era and to the work of an unusual artist. Good listening!
